HISTORY IN ITS TOTALITY
HISTORY IN ITS TOTALITY
Do we ever try to understand our position in the vast pool of humanity? We read history. We read history to know yourself, we dig our past, we try to establish connection. In nut shell we work hard to identify ourselves. But do we really do so?
Our journey to our past remains limited to our nationality, our religion , our culture and our traditions. But it's not sufficient. Without understanding ourselves vis a vis large pool of living and non living world we can't ascertain our place in history or in present or in future. We will have to understand our relationship with different groups of people living simultaneously in different parts of the world, we will have to comprehend our relationship with other animals and also with our environment. Look , today we are suffering due to climate change. But do we suffer as Indian or Chinese, or Arabs, or Americans? No. We suffer as human beings. We suffer as animal of this planet. If we could define our identity in respect of and in relation to larger entity of global nature we would have been in better position. But our historical identity just in terms of distinct cultures have laid us in so many catastrophical events. We need to register our history in terms of our position in global nature.
See, Russia had invaded Ukraine. Before that there were innumerable wars. Wars are generally waged in name of protection. Of identity. Same is here. Mr Putin is talking about protection of Russian identity. But what's Russian identity? How is it different from Ukrainian identity or from identity of either Finland, Latvia or from any other country? Will annexation of Ukraine protect this dictionary idrntity? Of course these arguments are propagandist in nature and can generate hate and violence only. Same is the case in other parts of the world.
In fact in most part of history most people have remained convinced about all false claims. Britain, France, Spain and other European countries travelled miles just to destroy other countries and civilizations. What historical role they were playing by doing so? Except injury to human beings and their cultural repository of thousands of years were destroyed only for white supermacy, for religious hegemony and for pecuniary gains. But who could be benefitted?
This is the outcome of failure of understanding history in its totalty.. Unless we understand history in relation to the planet's whole richness and diversity we will continue to indulge in infightings.
