CAPACITY BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT IN A GROWTH OBSESSED SOCIETY
An inherent problem with the policy makers is that they treat human beings as nothing more than data and poverty is just a line which if crossed a person becomes rich. With this approach development is never going to happen in any case. Do you think that crossing a line enables a person to provide his/her family with a good and useful education, quality health care, nutrition, clean house, decent clothes and a life worth living? Stop looking at man through the mirror of statistics and go back to the policies that provide a just, dignified life to all. Otherwise, one will keep counting the poor on some intangible scale. Economics still needs Philosophy. Build development into the language and definition of capacity building and beyond the calculation of BPL and GDP. Nothing will be gained from the rat race of growth. GDP will increase and decrease, this cycle will continue. Growth is a cyclical process, this is what the history of growth suggests. Sometimes fast and sometimes slow. This will be happening all the time. But the policy makers have to formulate the policy for development in the sense of capacity building. If you have made arrangements for capacity building in a person in the system, then the society will come out from any crisis. Resources may be limited, but capacity not. If our policy makers accept this truth and the people of our elite society are ready to take this responsibility, then we will finally be able to make our earth a #ABetterPlace.
