ACTORS OF DEMOCRACY

What does make democracy functional at the ground level? There are two sides of democracy, one who governs and the other who select/elect those who can govern. And for the proper functioning of democracy at ground level both should be in good shape and both should be in continuous interaction with each other.       

        First take the side who is authorised to govern. In a democracy some one or some form (e.g. a political party) is authorised to govern . This authorization is not unconditional or unfettered. There are checks and balances in form of rules and laws which are broadly based on the super law of the Constitution which has mandate of the people. Thus by these checks and balances those authorized to govern are made accountable and responsibile to those who give authority to govern. So a democracy runs smoothly as long as  those who have authority to govern, govern within the given framework of rules and laws and the instruments of checks and balances act independtly  by abiding rules and laws.

     The second side is the people who allow certain representatives to govern. This side of people is able to discharge her role when placed to do so. So when people are free to decide without any fear, inducement or compulsion and when have access to true informations without any labour and pain  and when people are in a position to enjoy justice, freedom , liberty and dignity and when they are not punished in vengeance for their dicision they act freely in electing their representatives to rule over themselves.

     From this discussion the most important fact that emerges is that a democracy runs smoothly only when every individual has liberty, freedom, justice, dignity, access to true information without pain and fear and when the governing body remains accountable to each and every such individual.

    If you desire to examine the health of your country's democracy you don't need anything else. Just put yourself in the center as a free individual and judge yourself the functioning of the government towards fulfilment of your basic needs of liberty, freedom, justice, and dignity. If the government is doing to satisfy your individual existence in these terms democracy is running smoothly in your country, otherwise not.

WE NEED DEMOCRACY

    WE NEED DEMOCRACY All schemes and services are meant to serve the people and so the beneficiaries must have every right to make complaints if there is something wrong in the structure and / or in the implementation of the schemes and services. This right to complain is not a costly privilege but it's is the right and this right is protected when the people have right to free speech and other rights as enshrined in our Constitution. The government  is chosen to provide these services and schemes for their betterment, for improving their living standard and the government has no other business more important than this to do. So the government is bound to entertain the complaints and this obligation is fulfilled only when the Constitutionally protected rights are intact. BEYOND RT MODEL

BEYOND RT MODEL History is a playbook of fierce struggle among the state, the market and the community. There have been some rare periods of balance among them.  Present is also witnessing this fierce struggle. The state is advocating minimum.governsnce  in many parts of the world . This was also happened in past. And whenever this has happened the loser is always the community. Present is marked by failures of Reagon-Thatcher Model. Richness must have only objective and that objective is to enrich the community as a whole. The RT Model brought great richness but failed to enrich the community in the same proportion. This was due to its advocacy for minimal government. And so the RT Model has completed  it's life. This collapse is painful no doubt but beyond the curtain of economic depression social prosperity is waiting as there is no other way to keep nation states survived. If community is not brought in the center greater pain is inevitable.
